Governor

The Governor directs the National Bank of Belgium. He chairs the Board of Directors and the Council of Regency when the latter discusses general questions relating to the Bank, monetary policy and the economic situation of Belgium and the European Union, the supervisory policy for each of the sectors subject to the Bank’s supervision, developments concerning supervision at Belgian, European and international level, and in general any developments concerning the financial system subject to the Bank’s supervision. He also chairs the Resolution College. He represents the National Bank in legal proceedings. In addition, he chairs the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, which in particular takes decisions on monetary policy for the euro area.

Pierre Wunsch

He is appointed by the King for a renewable term of five years.

Mr Pierre Wunsch has held the post of governor since 2 January 2019.
