Section of the Bank’s website dedicated to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT): update

The NBB would hereby like to inform you that the AML/CFT site has been updated to reference, among other recent publications:

  • The updated version of the NBB’s assessment of the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing in Belgian financial institutions subject to its supervisory authority, published on 27 October 2023 (see the page “Risk-based approach and overall risk assessment”)
  • The Communication on the NBB’s horizontal analysis of a sample of transactions carried out through tied agents of various payment institutions, published on 10 October 2023, in which the NBB highlighted points of attention and best practices for the sector (see the page “Object of the identification and identity verification”)
  • Financial institutions’ attention is also drawn to the publication, on 10 November 2023 in the Official Journal of the European Union, of the single list of prominent public functions at national level, at the level of international organisations and at the level of the European Union institutions and bodies (see the page “Politically exposed persons (PEPs)”)
  • Finally, the NBB’s comments and recommendations have been augmented by a new page on “Assets repatriation”.

For more information, please visit the AML/CFT site, where you can find an overview of the changes made to the successive versions of the site. The purpose of the AML/CFT site is to bring together all legal and regulatory texts on this subject and complement them with comments and recommendations by the NBB in this area.
