List of economic units making up the economic sectors

List of all economic units (downloadable as a CSV-file)

Note: The list of economic units making up the economic sectors has been drawn up on the basis of the nomenclature set out in the ESA 2010; it is published for purely practical purposes of collecting information from financial institutions.

This list is designed to help declarants (credit institutions and stockbroking firms) with automated processing of their data and harmonised submission of the information required for the compilation of financial statistics.

1. Financial sector

The exhaustive list of financial corporations can be found in the complete list of economic units downloadable as a CSV-file.

Code Belgian financial sector
1210 National central bank
1220 Deposit-taking corporations except the national central bank (i.e. credit institutions and electronic money institutions)
1230 Monetary mutual funds

Since the identifier is defined under the mutual fund and not under its individual sub-funds, an identical identifier can be found in both sector 1230 and sector 1240. Monetary mutual funds can therefore only be identified on the basis of the sub-fund. The list of sub-funds provided (without VAT number) under code 1230 enables these monetary-type sub-funds to be identified.

1240 Non-monetary mutual funds
1251 Financial vehicle corporations engaged in securitisation transactions
1252 Stockbroking firms
1259 Other non-monetary financial intermediaries
1260 Financial auxiliaries
1270 Captive financial institutions and money lenders
1280 Insurance corporations
1290 Pension funds

2. General government sector

The official list of government units is available on the National Accounts Institute’s website (French, Dutch). Its objective is to set the boundaries for the public sector and for the general government sector that serve as the basis for general government account statistics used for compiling the national accounts.

For purely practical purposes of gathering data from financial institutions, units that, strictly speaking, belong to the general government sector (13XX) have been classified in the list of all economic units that can be downloaded in CVS format (see above). This list includes the units identified by a business number, the units not identified by a business number [NO VAT NUMBER] and the groups of units [GROUPED UNITS] for units that have not been listed individually.

3. Non-financial corporations sector

The exhaustive list of non-financial corporations can be found in the complete list of economic units downloadable as a CSV-file.

4. Non-profit institutions serving households sector (NPISH)

The exhaustive list of non-profit institutions serving households sector (NPISH) can be found in the complete list of economic units downloadable as a CSV-file.
