Notes and coins
The National Bank’s best-known task is to ensure that there are enough banknotes and that everyone continues to have access to cash, today and tomorrow. In Belgium, the National Bank puts euro banknotes into circulation which are readily available, of excellent quality and difficult to counterfeit. It takes false, damaged and soiled banknotes out of circulation. It also issues euro coins on behalf of the State. Do you still have Belgian banknotes? You can exchange them at the counters of the NBB, just like (damaged) euro banknotes or coins.
