Exchanging damaged euro notes

In some cases, damaged euro notes can still be exchanged. The conditions are set out below.

Damaged banknotes
Standard exchange
Volume < 3000 euro
Charges Free
Payment Immediately at the counter
In cash (transfer is not possible)
CONDITIONS The damage is accidental.
More than half of the banknote still remains.
No form (except in the case of serious damage).
Exchange of large amounts
Volume  ≥ 3000 euro
Charges Free
Payment < 10 000 euro: Immediately in banknotes and coins 
≥ 10 000 euro: Postponed in banknotes and coins
CONDITIONS The damage is accidental.
More than half of the banknote still remains.
A declaration of origin must be completed.
Exchange by post
Volume < 3000 euro per month
≤ 10 000 euro per calendar year
Charges Free
Payment By transfer
Demande Completed form plus a copy of the identity card of the requester and the recipient and evidence that the account belongs to the requester (statement of account or copy of bank card) to be submitted to the Central Cash Office   
CONDITIONS The damage is accidental.
