Where can I find information about deferring mortgage repayments?
The coronavirus crisis is having a major impact on the economy of this country. This puts pressure on the financial situation of many people. Many of them are in danger of losing their jobs or have a period of less or even no income at all. Mortgage repayments often take a hefty bite out of the family budget.
Minister of Finance Alexander De Croo, the National Bank of Belgium and Febelfin have therefore announced that they will provide financial support to people in the event that they run into difficulties as a result of the coronavirus crisis. For example, payment of the mortgage loan can be postponed for a maximum of six months.
The practical details of the postponement have been detailed in a charter.
The National Bank also published a Q&A for the banks on the technical implementation of the agreement.
In order to help anyone who has questions or encounters financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus crisis, Febelfin, the federation of the Belgian financial sector, has set up a central contact point: firstname.lastname@example.org.
