I would like to know where a certain person holds bank accounts.

The National Bank of Belgium maintains a central point of contact in which all the bank accounts opened in Belgium and some kinds of financial contracts concluded in Belgium are registered.

However, the law provides that only the tax authorities are empowered to consult this database, and only in specific circumstances, hereby following a strict procedure defined by the Federal Public Service Finances. Other third parties are not entitled to access this database.

Any person who is registered in the central point of contact may upon request receive free of charge a copy of the data stored under his/her name.

If you think you have a dormant account, you can carry out a search in the dormant fund registers.

Febelfin, the Belgian Financial Sector Federation, can help third parties to trace bank accounts by asking its members.
