The statutory portfolio is valued at the amortised purchase price in the case of fixed-income securities and at the acquisition price for equity.

Since shares in the Bank for International Settlements are no longer traded on the market, the only representative value of these securities is the price at which the BIS bought its shares back from private shareholders in 2001, that is 23,977.56 CHF per share. On the basis of the annual report published by the BIS on 29 June 2009, its own funds were worth 13,716 million SDR (about 15.5 billion euro at rates on 31 March 2009) at the end of the financial year ending 31 March 2009. The BIS capital is made up of 546,125 shares, 50,100 of which, or 9.2% of the capital, are owned by the NBB.
