Pierre Wunsch has served as governor of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) since January 2019.

He holds a PhD in economics from UCL and a master in public affairs (MPA) from Princeton University. Prior to joining the National Bank in 2011 as a director and subsequently vice-governor, Pierre was an expert at the Federal Planning Bureau, held various positions with Tractebel and led the Federal Public Service Finance’s strategic unit.

As governor of a national central bank in the Eurosystem, Pierre also holds a number of other offices, including member of both the Governing Council and the General Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), member of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

In January 2022, he was named president of the King Baudouin Foundation.
