New website launched: nbbmuseum.be

The National Bank of Belgium's Museum has been fitted out with a new website, which seeks to further improve accessibility to the themes illustrated in the Museum itself, such as money and its history, its role in the economy, the major financial crises of the 20th century, the advent of the euro...

This new internet site forms part of a series of initiatives taken by the National Bank alongside other stakeholders to enhance public understanding of economic affairs. Since the outbreak of the current economic crisis, there have been a good many calls for better information and even for a real education for citizens in economic and financial questions.

Researching, producing and disseminating this kind of information forms an integral part of the National Bank's basic missions. Its Museum, the only one of its kind in Belgium dedicated to money and the major mechanisms in the economy, therefore has a privileged place in this area.

The new website presents a virtual tour of the Museum in four languages, backed up by information targeted at schools in particular. Teaching staff will find a virtual "teachers' room" on it, bringing together a wide range of information: educational packs, documentation from seminars for schoolteachers organised by the Bank, technical files, and more.

Last but not least, the nbbmuseum.be website proposes a diary of upcoming events at the Museum and gives users the option of booking a tour on-line or browsing through part of its collections.

This website, like the Museum itself, is of course likely to be further developed by offering new interactive presentations and expanded resources. We invite you to regularly come back to these web pages for updates.

The attached leaflet presents the website's main features of the moment.
