The ESCB's statistical function is based on a legal mandate to collect all necessary and relevant data in order to produce and disseminate impartial, reliable, appropriate, timely, consistent and accessible statistics in the areas under the ESCB's responsibility. Public commitment on European Statistics by the ESCB. The National Bank subscribes to the "Policy regarding the reuse of ESCB statistics" as communicated on September 3th, 2012 by the ESCB. However the Bank may reconsider its position in case large investments or costs are involved.

Surveys

The National Bank issues monthly press releases succinctly presenting the results of household surveys. Gathering the opinions of consumers on the state of the economy and on developments which can be forecast over the short-term, these surveys provide an additional general overview which is very useful for situational analyses.

The National Bank issues monthly press releases succinctly presenting the results of company surveys. Gathering the opinions of business people on the state of the economy and on developments which can be forecast over the short-term, these surveys provide a general and concise overview which is very useful for situational analyses.

Twice a year, the National Bank of Belgium conducts a survey on investment in manufacturing industry. In spring, the enterprises are polled on the developments of their gross capital formation in the previous year and in the current year. In fall, the investment developments in the current year are measured, and enterprises are sounded out about their prospects for investment in the oncoming year.
