The ESCB’s statistical function is based on a legal mandate to collect all necessary and relevant data in order to produce and disseminate impartial, reliable, appropriate, timely, consistent and accessible statistics in the areas under the ESCB’s responsibility.

 | | Foreign Trade | | The National Bank has been responsible for compiling all the statistical data relating to external trade, for drawing up overall anonymous statistics from individual observations and for the diffusion or publication of data in periodicals or on electronic media. In this context, the National Bank acts on behalf of the Institute for national accounts. |

 | | Money and banking statistics | | Bank and monetary statistics group together statistics relating to financial and monetary institutions, as well as to the financial markets. These statistics constitute essential information for the European Central Bank's monetary policy. |

 | | Non-financial accounts | | The National Bank compiles the national quarterly and annual accounts, as well as the regional annual accounts, on behalf of the National Accounts Institute. The annual accounts offer a detailed overview of the components of GDP and revenue, expenditure and savings per institutional sector. The quarterly accounts present a summary of the major aggregates of the national economy and are preceded by a flash estimate of GDP. The regional accounts provide information on the regional dimension of major macro-economic aggregates. |
