Section of the Bank’s website devoted to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT): update

Through its Communication NBB_2018_04 of 8 February 2018, the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) informed financial institutions of the creation on its website of a section devoted to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (the so-called “AML/CFT site”). This AML/CFT site aims to bring together all legal and regulatory texts on this subject and complement them with comments and recommendations made by the NBB in this area.

The NBB would hereby like to inform you that the AML/CFT site has been updated.

The NBB’s comments and recommendations have been updated to take into account the EBA Guidelines of 22 November 2022 on the use of remote customer onboarding solutions (see the pages “Policies, procedures, processes and internal control measures”, “Performance of obligations by third parties”, and “Object of the identification and identity verification”). Financial institution’s attention is also drawn to the consolidated version of the EBA Guidelines of 1 March 2021 (ML/TF Risk Factors Guidelines) as amended by the EBA Guidelines of 31 March 2023 (referenced on the page “Risk-based approach and overall assessment”), as well as to the EBA Guidelines of 31 March 2023 on policies and controls for the effective management of ML/TF risks when providing access to financial services (referenced on the page “Due diligence requirements and de-risking”).

The reporting procedures for financial institutions via the NBB Supervision portal have also been updated (see the page “Reporting by financial institutions”).

For more information, please visit the AML/CFT site, where you can find an overview of the changes made to the successive versions of the site.
