The
ELLIPS-system is known as highly reliable. Its level of availability
approaches 100 % every year. Yet the possibility of unavailability
of a system like ELLIPS can never be excluded. Given the critical
nature of the payments which ELLIPS processes, a long-lasting
unavailability of the system may have major repercussions on the
financial markets as a whole. In order to avoid such situations or,
to restrict at least the consequences, measures are provided, in the
event of unavailability, to switch to an alternative site (Business
continuity plan) and/or to execute at least a limited number of
payments during the interval of unavailability (contingency
measures). These measures are explained in detail in the Business
Recovery Plan which has been elaborated by the Current Accounts
Division.
