On 6 December 2005 the Eurosystem is launching the electronic dissemination of national contributions to statistical aggregates for the euro area. This coordinated project makes it possible to consult that information on any of the national central bank websites. The Eurosystem is thus responding to increasing demand from the users who want an overall view of euro area aggregates presented jointly, and preferably in their own language, where the breakdown of the aggregates into national components is of economic relevance. The National Bank’s website also presents this statistical information.
In the future, the current range of statistics may be extended according to their economic relevance and the degree of harmonisation across Member States. The dissemination of information arranged by country is not contrary to the principle whereby the ECB, in defining its monetary policy, uses statistical data relating solely to the euro area as a whole.
